Ferrari World Abu Dhabi: Rides, Tips And What To Expect

The building greets you from the car park like a piece of dropped red foil, enormous and crumpled. That is the roof: 200,000 sq m of it, shaped after Ferrari's double-curve logo. You take an escalator from Yas Mall to the top floor, walk through a short outdoor stretch past restaurants and a fountain, and the bright red entrance appears ahead.

I arrived on a weekday morning, just before 11 AM. The space inside was quiet and wide open, flooded with diffused daylight through the roof panels.

What is Ferrari World Abu Dhabi?

Ferrari World Abu Dhabi is the world's first Ferrari-branded theme park. It opened on 4 November 2010 on Yas Island and now has 40+ rides and attractions across five themed zones (Wikipedia, 2025). The park is fully indoors, which matters in Abu Dhabi. No heat exposure once you are through the entrance, regardless of the time of year. General admission covers all rides, shows, and exhibits for the day.

Yas Island sits about 30 minutes from central Abu Dhabi by car and around 90 minutes from Dubai. Ferrari World shares the island with Yas Waterworld and Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi, which makes it easy to combine into a multi-park day.

How do you get there and find your way around?

Parking at Yas Mall is free. From the car park, take the escalator to the mall's top floor, then walk straight through until you see the red Ferrari World entrance. The walk takes about five to ten minutes.

At the ticketing gate, staff hand you a printed park map. It marks every ride, restroom, dining point, rest area, and zone entrance. The signage inside is clear throughout. If you lose your bearings, approach any park employee and they will redirect you immediately.

One thing to check before you travel: Formula Rossa closes for scheduled maintenance without prominent advance notice. If Formula Rossa is your main reason for visiting, call the park or check its social media the day before. When I visited, the groups who were most frustrated were those who had not checked. They had travelled from Dubai specifically for that ride.

What zones are inside Ferrari World Abu Dhabi?

Ferrari World is divided into five zones, each with a different focus, as listed by Visit Abu Dhabi, the Abu Dhabi tourism board:

The Plaza is the central hub at the entrance. This is where you find the retail store, guest services, and the main dining cluster.

The Adventure Zone holds the major thrill rides: Formula Rossa, Flying Aces, Turbo Track, and Mission Ferrari. If you are visiting for the coasters, you will spend most of your time here.

The Racing Zone covers motorsport. F1 simulators, the Fiorano GT Challenge side-by-side racing coaster, and a collection of genuine Ferrari cars on display. This is the part of the park that appeals most to people interested in the cars, not just the rides.

The Family Zone is designed for children under 140 cm. Formula Rossa Junior is here, along with Flying Wings and Benno's Great Race. The area is quieter than the Adventure Zone and well-signposted for parents.

The Italian Zone is the one that caught me off guard. No coasters. Instead: decorated walkways that look like a miniature Italian courtyard, with painted walls, old shop fronts, and a central fountain. It is the most photographable part of the park by some distance. You would not guess you were inside Ferrari World from the photos. Worth 20-30 minutes even if you are there primarily for the rides.

The Adventure Zone holds the main thrill rides. Arrive early for the shortest queues.

Which rides are worth the wait?

Most of the major coasters at Ferrari World require a minimum height of 130 cm, with Formula Rossa requiring 140 cm and a maximum weight of 100 kg (Visit Abu Dhabi, 2025). Check these before you go if you are visiting with children or have any concern about qualifying. Height restrictions are enforced at each boarding gate.

Turbo Track is a vertical launch coaster that starts indoors, then shoots you through a glass tube on the exterior of the building under open sky. My instinct on arrival was that it would be mild. It is not. The launch is a genuine shock. I sat in the rear-facing back seat, which turned out to be significantly more intense than the front. If you want the sharpest sensation from this ride, face backward.

Mission Ferrari is a dark ride that builds a story before it ever moves. The queue area is near-unlit and atmospheric, with screens showing an action sequence in a futuristic setting. Then comes a hologram section and an immersive film sequence, followed by the coaster itself, which goes upside down. The experience is more like a video game level than a traditional roller coaster. It is not suitable for people who are sensitive to rapid light changes or intense visual effects.

Flying Aces is the most demanding ride in the park. Height requirement is 130-196 cm. Speed reaches 120 km/h. More on this below.

Formula Rossa reaches 240 km/h, making it one of the fastest roller coasters on earth. It held the Guinness World Record for the fastest roller coaster from 2010 until December 2025, when it was surpassed by Falcon's Flight in Saudi Arabia at 250 km/h (Wikipedia, 2025). The 240 km/h launch still takes 4.9 seconds and uses a hydraulic system similar to an aircraft carrier catapult. Height requirement: 140-195 cm, maximum weight 100 kg.

Turbo Tower is a vertical drop tower. Not extreme. A reasonable starting point if you want to ease in before the main coasters.

What does Flying Aces actually feel like?

Flying Aces holds two confirmed Guinness World Records: world's tallest non-inverting loop at 52 m (171 ft) and world's steepest cable-lift incline at 51 degrees (Guinness World Records, 2016). It opened in February 2016 and reaches speeds of up to 120 km/h on a 1,500 m track.

The approach matters. You walk through a dimly lit tunnel decorated in a spare, dry version of a pilot's quarters: brown tones, old equipment, no colour. At the end of the tunnel, a heavy wooden door. It opens into full Yas Island daylight.

The moment the light comes in, something shifts. All the controlled darkness of the queue had been doing something to your eyes and nerves without you noticing. The carriage moves fast. The brightness and the speed arrive together. You go up the 51-degree incline, then around the 52-metre loop.

Sitting strapped into the carriage at the top, you have no choice but to feel what happens next. That is the point. You chose to have no choice. That is, I think, why people get on roller coasters at all. Not to be brave. To remove the option of hesitation.

After every coaster you can view a photo of your face taken mid-ride. You cannot photograph the screen yourself. You can purchase prints from AED 140 per image.

Where can you eat inside Ferrari World?

The main sit-down options are Mamma Rossella and Gran Tour Emilia, both with Italian-leaning menus. Food courts and kiosks run throughout the zones for quicker meals and snacks.

Prices are standard for a theme park. A can of cola is 20 AED. If cost is a factor, eat in Yas Mall before entering. The mall has a full range of restaurants on the same floor as the Ferrari World entrance, including Raising Cane's. After my visit, I went there for chicken. It was genuinely good.

All loose items, bags, food, and drinks must go into free lockers before each ride. Each coaster entry point has a designated storage area. Open-toe footwear must be removed for some rides. To save time at each gate, remove open-toe shoes before every coaster.

What do families with young children need to know?

The Family Zone is built specifically for children, with rides starting from 90 cm minimum height when accompanied by an adult. Formula Rossa Junior, Flying Wings, and Benno's Great Race are all located here. The zone is quieter than the Adventure Zone and visually gentler.

Children under 3 enter free. Children aged 11 and under require adult supervision throughout the park. For Formula Rossa and Flying Aces, height minimums are 140 cm and 130 cm respectively. Most children under 10 will not qualify for the main coasters, but there are purpose-built alternatives in the Family Zone.

The park map clearly marks which rides are child-appropriate. Staff at each ride entrance confirm eligibility before boarding.

Is Ferrari World Abu Dhabi worth it?

Ferrari World is a well-run park with genuine variety across its five zones. The main coasters, particularly Flying Aces and Turbo Track, deliver real intensity. The Italian Zone is worth an hour on its own, even if the rest of the park does not appeal to you. The air conditioning holds throughout, which counts for a great deal in Abu Dhabi.

Whether it justifies AED 345 depends on what you are after. For adults or older children who want serious coasters and a day of activity, the answer is yes. If you are visiting primarily for Formula Rossa, confirm it is operating before you book.
